The basic constituents of oranges are water and carbs. In carbs, there are mainly simple sugars and fiber. Oranges are low in glycemic index despite the presence of simple sugars. Both of these are known to increase the absorption of iron. So, oranges should be taken with iron rich foods in order to increase the haemoglobin levels and decrease the chances of anaemia.

Although oranges are well tolerated by most of the people, some people are allergic to oranges, and their acidity may increase the symptoms of heartburn. This is mainly due to the presence of vitamin C and citric acids.
